Today we will explore the history of the law of attraction. Is “The Secret” really something brand new, or just a low budget movie, which happened to be liked by Oprah? Some of the early law-of-attraction authors are James Allen, Wallace D. Wattles, and Florence Scovel, who all wrote about similar ideas over 50 – 100 years ago. One of the biggest successes is the book Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddie, that has a metaphysical basis, but is grounded in the concept of an omnipresent and good God. Emma Curtis Hopkins originally studied under Mary Baker Eddie, but founded her own school, and taught such students as the founders of Unity, Divine Science, and Religious Science. There is an old saying that “there is nothing new under the sun, just what has been forgotten.” Is this true with The Secret?
